Kensington Fern Garden

This charming courtyard in Kensington was part of a wider house renovation. The garden had existing beautiful London stock brick walls and good canopy from neighbouring trees. As such, the garden was mostly in partial shade throughout the year. This offered an opportunity to bring light and texture to the space through the use of ferns. Alongside a shadier planting scheme, the ferns created vertical interest and framing for the garden when looking out from the new kitchen.

The hard landscaping packed a lot of detail for a small space, with reddish brown clay pavers and limestone steps forming the basis for the seating area and a reclaimed solid stone fireplace as the focal point for the garden.

The planting also featured a good amount of topiary to balance out the looser forms of the ferns with more structure.
